| As it seems I've been averaging about one entry per monthy, I will call this "My February Entry." I will begin by recounting some of the major events in the last several weeks.
As many of you know, I got a "lateral transfer" at work about 2.5 weeks ago. I wasn't big on switching to the other branch, but it has proved to be more exciting, and I'm hoping to get a raise here in another couple of months. Maybe then I could afford health insurance! But seriously, I'm pretty sure health insurance is over-rated. Although, I am avoiding trips to the doctor for fear of being diagnosed with something really expensive. (Not that I need one, I am presently in good health.) With me vaccating my Teller possition, my sister decided to apply for the opening. The bank elected to hire someone else (my transfer date was based on her ability to start.) After a day and a half on the job, my replacement found out that she was accepted for a better job that was much more closely suited to her personal interests, so she gave her notice, and was granted release to go start her new job. With my old position open yet again, Charity came in for an interview and was hired. She has now been out in Lake St. Louis for about a week and a half. I think it's pretty cool that they could go from one Richardson to another. I miss the people at Lake St., and I miss doing Teller work, but I do enjoy having more to do.
In other news, I think I have my time with CruFood to thank for my award winning chilli. My appartment complex had a chilli cookoff at their Super Bowl Party, so I entered a chilli loosely based on the Crummunity Friday Night Chilli (thanks to Katie Brooks), but with more seasoning and spices (thanks at lease in part to Devin and his old family recipe (not that Devin's family is old, but I'm sure the recipe is)). I know Chilli is our time-honored Fall Party tradition, but I think it'd make a good addition to the Super Bowl party as well (we might need to get more crock pots, as they do very well at keeping chilli's hot).
In any case, that's the news.

| ... I do need to update my Xanga
It's hard to believe it's been a month and a half since my last update. What have I been doing in the meantime? I've been periodically updating my Facebook status. I've been working, but that's hardly an excuse.
Let's see... I've moved into my own appartment. I'm pretty excited about it. It's kind of fun, but somehow more expensive than living at home. I'm still working on building a social network of some kind. Those of you still in college should enjoy the blessings of being surrounded by such wonderful people all of the time. I really do miss you all. But, I always knew that Truman was only my home for a season, and it's healthy to move on into adulthood. Once more I'd like to say just how much my college friends have been a blessing.
New topic: how do you choose a church in a city where there are hundreds of quality churches? And when is it safe to commit to a church? I could always try casting lots on an open phone book. Do you pick the biggest church assuming they have the best post-collage young adult program or pick one of the dozens of smaller churches? Seriously, it's rough.
Anyway, that's all I've got. Take care everyone. Grace and Peace.

| Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
At Grace Church St. Louis this week, Pastor Ron was discussing this passage, and he said this:
"As long as I keep comming to God trying to influence the relationship
based on what I've done and the good person I am, God gets very little
glory, and I get very little peace."
This is true of my life. Pastor Ron went on to explain that whenever we come to God on our own merit, we can have no peace because we know how undeserving we really are, ie- all the bad stuff we've done, said, thought, etc.
But, when we come to God through his favor (literally translated "pleasure") in us, God gets all the glory, and all we're left with is peace.

| I know, some of you were expecting deep commentary on my life, but for the moment, I'm thinking about the movie I saw last night, so I though I'd share that with everyone.
Happy Feet - not just another penguin movie.
When I saw previews for Happy Feet, I must admit, I wasn't at all excited about it. "Another movie with penguins... Agh!" I figured they were just riding the popularity of other films that feature wildly popular penguin characters. I figure eventually penguins alone will not be able to guarentee a good movie. In any case, I was overall impressed.
I most enjoied the musical numbers in this film. Music was featured prominantly in the film, both with the score and with songs. But these are no Disney songs. The soundtrack featured rewrites of popular music, often in a style quite unlike the origional. They layered different songs together in a way that you just don't see anywhere else. It reminded me of opera, in that you had one character singing one song as background to another character with a completely different song.
The plot was pretty decent. There were some transitions that were fairly poorly done. I don't know if they were just too much like plot holes or a little underdevoloped, but they detracted a lot from the film. My aunt commented that the film seemed to drag on in some places, and although I didn't neccessarily agree. There were a few sceens the movie could have done without, including a politically charged segment on the debate over wildlife protection in Antartica. I didn't feel like it added anything to the film, and it certainly didn't have any place in a children's film, unless they were trying to get the kids involved in the political process.
Maybe I'm paranoid, but I always wonder at what kinds of messages filmmakers are trying to send to the children who watch their movies. And I'm not just talking about the obvious environmental messages (which reminded me of Fern Gully), but also the was it portrays other characters, such as the hypocritical religious zealots. Are they trying to send messages about religious people in general?
Anyway, I'd be up for seeing the musical numbers again.

| | You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.
